The art collective “ClaRa MoSch” existed from 1977 to 1982. It was founded by Carlfriedrich Claus, Thomas Ranft and Dagmar Ranft-Schinke, Michael Morgner and Gregor-Torsten Schade in Karl-Marx-Stadt, now Chemnitz. It became known for a dozen spectacular actions with which they tried to free themselves from the state-controlled art scene in the GDR. A self-managed gallery was intended to provide a place for this utopia.
The exhibition uses numerous original documents, photos, posters, postcards and letters to tell the story of this gallery and that of the Galerie Oben in Chemnitz, which was founded in 1973 and still represents artists of the Clara Mosch group today.
