At the beginning of the 20th century, many artists strove for a new, universal visual language that reduced artistic expression to the interplay of colours, lines and shapes: geometric abstraction. They were fascinated by the findings of science and technology in their time and wanted to express new experiences of space and time in their art.
The exhibition presents 125 works by more than 70 artists, an impressive diversity that emerged over six decades in Europe and the United States from the restriction to a geometric vocabulary.
